Thank You!!!!

Thank you to all of the students and parents for attending the 2011-2012 Carnival. As many of you know, this is a BIG fundraiser for the school and we appreciate those that took time out of their busy schedules to attend. The attendance was way down this year so we are hoping that next year there will not be any conflicts to hinder our fundraising efforts. Thanks again for those of you that attended.

Another BIG thank you to the teachers that helped make this event possible. Mrs. Ruth works very hard to get things organized so if you see her make sure that you thank her for her time. Also, make sure to thank all of the teachers for the extra time that they put in on Friday for this wonderful event.

December 2011

The cold weather has set in and winter is upon us. I keep hearing that we are lucky that it has not been like this for 2 months already. I could have went another 2 months with the weather that we have been having, but we are in IOWA after all!!!!!

Make sure that your child comes with warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots. They will be going outside to recess everyday that is above 0 degrees, and we need to make sure that they stay warm. The kids love to play outside so make sure that they are prepared for all weather.

The students are all excited that Winter Break is right around the corner and they will have a few days off from school. Break will begin at 2:20 on December 22 and resume again on January 3. We have many things to finish before we get to break though. The students will be having their Annual Winter Concert on Thursday, December 8, at 7:00 in the high school gym. The Jr./Sr. High students will be holding their concert on Monday, December 12, at 7:00 in the high school gym. The students have put in many hours of preparation and would like for you all to come and see their hard-work pay off.

The winter sports seasons are well underway and the teams are making a good showing so far. Both boys and girls basketball teams are undefeated and looking at several more wins this season. The wrestling team is also working hard to have a successful season. As you know our boys wrestle with Guthrie Center and they are doing awesome. Make sure that you check the calendar in the newsletter for the schedule of events.

Wishing all of you the happiest of holidays.....

November 2011

The ghosts and goblins are gone and November is here, where did the first 9 weeks of school go??? The students have completed 1/4 of the school year and it sure does not seem like it. The Elementary has been busy learning new things and sharing those things with their parents during Parent/Teacher conferences on Nov. 1 and Nov. 3. Thanks to all the parents that attended conferences.

The ELP students have been preparing themselves for the state Mock Trial Competition which will be held on Wednesday Nov. 9 in Council Bluffs. The students have worked the last few months in preparation for this event. We wish them luck on the 9th.

The One Act Plays are underway, as well. Mrs. Schaefer has some great actors and actresses participating this year in a variety of one act plays. The performance for these plays will be Friday November 11 at 7:00 in the high school gymnasium. Good Luck to them on their performance night.

A huge Congratulations needs to go out to several different students at Adair-Casey for making us very proud of what we do and value here.

A BIG Congratulations to Bryant Plowman on making the All-State Honor Choir for the second year. This is a huge honor for anyone involved in the music programs around the state. Best of Luck in future performances.
The volleyball team had a great season and should be proud of their accomplishments during the 2011 season. I look forward to another great season next year.
The A-C Football team is preparing for the 3rd round of playoffs on Friday night Nov. 4. We are wishing them all of the luck in the world for a big victory over Murray.

October 2011

Here it is October already. 7 weeks into the 2011-2012 school year and it is going GREAT!!!! All of the kids are getting the routine down and are learning all sorts of new things. The first graders are beginning to write their Friday stories. It is so much fun to see what they write and how well they do already this early in the year. If you are in the building you will have to stop by and read them. The most amazing part of an educators job is watching the students learn and grow, this is very evident in the elementary this year.

Just a few dates that you will want to put on your calendars for this month:

October 21 Kindergarten Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch
October 26 Cookie Dough will be delivered
October 27 Dismiss 1:30 Teacher Inservice
October 28 Fall Parties 2:30
November 1 & 3 Parent Teacher Conferences

Summer Time

School is out for the Summer..... A common song being sung by many of the students and teachers at A-C. It sure does not seem like it is time to be out for the summer already, but it is. This school year was a very good one, with lots of great memories.
For those of you that do not know we will be losing some very important people at the end of the year. Mrs. Christy Lundy will be leaving us for a change in her career, she will be going to West Central to teach at the Middle School. Mrs. Jodi Berlau will be leaving A-C to stay at home with her children. Ms Kami Winther will also be leaving us to join the staff at Guthrie Center to be the 7-12 Guidance Counselor. Finally, Mrs. Sharon Anderson will be retiring to enjoy time with her children and grandchilden. Miss Megan Farnsworth will be moving into the Media Specialist position for the 2011-2012 school year. We would like to wish all of them the best of luck. New staff will be hired in the next few weeks.
I would like to wish all of you a happy, healthy and fun-filled summer.
There will be updates as needed throughout the summer.

May 2011

Dear Students, Parents and Community Members:

Wow!! It is unreal that we only have 20 days of school left. This has been a great year and I hate to see it end.We have had many great things happen this year. Here are a few of the celebrations that we have had throughout the year:

Third through Sixth grades increased their Basic Skills percentiles into the upper 70’s and 80’s.This was an amazing accomplishment and all should be awarded for their outstanding efforts.

The State Visit in December was a huge undertaking with outstanding results. This is due to the great students, teachers and community members that we have at A-C.Good Job and thanks for all of the hard work!!!

The ELP students were successful in their first annual community involved Envision Night. There were many people that attended the event and participated with the students in their projects.

The Carnival was another huge success. This event helps to fund field trips for the students as well as put items in the classrooms that otherwise would not be possible. Thanks to all that attended this yearly event.

The Mileage Club developed by Daniel Jayne with the help of Sheryl Richter and Mrs. Ruhland has been a great addition to recess. The students have walked the distance it would be from California to Iowa.Way to Go!!!!

These are just a few of the accomplishments that were successful at A-C Elementary this year, with many more in the memory banks of all of the students.I am looking forward to the things that we will accomplish next year. Thanks again for all of the support that each and every one of you give to the A-C Elementary on a daily basis.

Week of April 18

Hello to all,

I hope that everyone is staying dry in this rainy spring weather. I am still waiting for the warm sunny days that the weatherman promised us weeks ago.

The students have begun their NWEA testing and it is going wonderfully. 1st, 4th and 5th have completed all of their tests and kindergarten and 3rd will be testing this week. The students are so excited to see how much they have learned throughout the year and this is a great way to show them. For those of you not familiar with the NWEA, it is an assessment that we give in the Fall and then again in the Spring to determine the amount of growth that each student has made throughout the year. The students are tested in Reading, Math, Language and Science. This also is directly related to the Odyssey program that the school just purchased in the last few months. If you would like to learn more about either one of these programs feel free to contact me at school and we can chat.

Just a few reminders of upcoming events:
Thursday April 21 1:30 Dismissal
Friday April 22 No School
Monday April 25 No School
Tuesday May 10 Elementary Spring Concert 7:00 High School Gym
Wednesday May 18 Track and Field Day K-2 Morning
3-6 Afternoon

Wishing all of you a splendid Spring Break weekend.

Week of April 4

Hello to all A-C Elementary Followers:

Just a few notes for this week. First of all, I would like to thank that A-C Booster Club for the $2000 donation that they made to the playground fund. We are also working on donations from the Adair and Guthrie County foundations. With these donations we should be close to $26000. This will help to get us started on the improvements to the playground. We are hoping to do some of it this summer, but will have to wait and see how the lagoon system project goes. I am pretty sure that I am more excited than the kids are to get new playground equipment.

CARNIVAL WEEK!!!!! Remember that the carnival is Friday night from 5-8. There are some awesome prizes to be won by everyone. The big prizes consist of a TV, Netbook, Digital Camera, and an IPod Shuffle. Wow!!!! I hope that everyone can make it and try to win something special.

Friday is also Spring Picture Day. So make sure that your students are ready to smile big. There are no order forms, they will just take everyone's picture and then send you the proofs to view and decide if you would like to purchase or not.

Hope that everyone has a GREAT Week and we will see all of you on Friday night.

Week of March 28

Can you believe that it will be April 1 on Friday? It seems like school just started. I guess this only proves what a great year it has been at Adair-Casey. The students are beginning to get a little fidgety, but that is too be expected with the weather warming up and then wanting to be outside playing. There are only 39 days of school left this year so hang tight and we will be done soon.

Not much going on this week in the Elementary. The 3rd graders are doing their annual Monster Cookie baking on Thursday. This day is always so interesting to watch, and the cookies are always delicious. Good luck with the selling and baking.

Hope everyone has a great week and enjoys the warm temperatures to come.

Week of March 21

Spring has finally arrived!!!!! Just a reminder though, even though the calendar says it is Spring you will still need to make sure that your child has a coat for those cooler days. They are saying that the temps will once again be in the 30's by the end of the week, so a coat, hat and gloves will be necessary.

We had a wonderful turnout last Friday for Muffins for Moms. There were 66 moms that attended with their child. This was a very special day for the students, they love to have someone come and visit with them. Thanks to all that attended. Donuts for Dads will be this Friday March 28 starting at 7:30. So come and join us for another wonderful breakfast.

Another thank you goes out to the parents and students that helped to make the first ELP Movie afternoon a success. There were 87 students that spent the afternoon at school after being dismissed at 1:30. The students watched a movie and then played games and made crafts. We all had a great time. A special Thank You to Mrs. Ruhland for all of the hard-work and extra time that she put into this project.

The preschool will be entertaining their grandparents on Thursday March 24. This afternoon will consist of songs, crafts and activities for all ages.
